Breeding and Puppies
We only breed dogs whose hips and elbows have been evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, or OFA. Hip or Elbow Dysplasia can cause severe pain and discomfort, compromising the quality of life for an affected animal and their family. While testing the sire and dam and only breeding ones who "pass" the OFA standard can't guarantee that all offspring will be clear of hip and elbow problems, it is the best practice to reduce risk of genetic defects. For more information, please go to:
Who We Are - The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
Many of our Twombly Setters are purchased by folks who want an exceptional companion dog for their family. Our English setters are not droopy couch potatoes you see in some dog calendars! They are energetic dogs who enjoy running and being outside with "their people". Everyone should understand that these bred-for-hunting dogs are "people dogs" and need love, companionship and people who will take them into the world on “explorations” - not just leave them in their crate or the fenced-in yard.
Our recent litter
Four beautiful pups were born in Lowell, VT on Sept. 24, 2020 and are happily settled in
with their forever families. Here they are: Remington, Denali, Clyde and Gracie!
Several of these pups will return to Vermont for Bird Dog Training in the summer 2021!
Future breedings
We are very excited about our next pairing of two fabulous bird dogs: Duchess of Coronation (OFA Hips Good, Elbows Normal) will be bred with Firelight KM Tip (also OFA Hips Good, Elbows Normal). Duchess is a 3 year old tricolor, Tip an almost 3 year old white, black and ticked setter.
Tip is owned by a friend in Massachusetts and bred by Firelight Setters, which is owned and operated in Michigan (Upper Mitten) by Lynn Dee Galey. Firelight Kennels is well known and respected for the focus on cover dogs who excel with wild birds, proven over many generations of dogs.
Duchess is a result of several of our bird dog breedings here at Coronation Kennels - Earl, Olga, Burdock, and Olga's Grace are all in her bloodlines of fine New England grouse and woodcock dogs, tracing pedigrees back to Gramp Earl Twombly, the original owner of Coronation Kennels.
The pups from this litter should all be wonderful bird dogs and will deserve to be raised and trained with hunting as a primary focus and will reward as great companion bird dogs.
Duchess will hopefully be ready for breeding in March/April 2021, so please stay tuned!

From “Every Dog Should Own a Man” by Corey Ford - the "Boss" was Earl Twombly of Waterbury, VT.
"...They’re all good,” the Boss smiled. “They’re by old Duke, that I’ve hunted with for over six years.”
The boy was standing so near that he could almost touch him, and he braced his paws against the wire and tried to catch the boy’s eye. If he could catch the boy’s eye and tell him, then the boy would know, too.
Once the boy almost looked at him, but just then the older man spoke to him, and he turned.
“Which one do you like, son?” the older man asked.
The boy’s eyes moved slowly over the other pups in the yard, and finally came to him, and stopped. He looked expectantly at the boy, thinking of all the things they were going to do together..."
